In the applied aspect, the article examines the possibilities of using the sociometric method in the study of primary collectives – student groups. The author uses the experience of conducting sociometric research in the study groups of cadets of the Academy of the FPS of Russia. The possibilities and technologies of using the predictive sociometric criterion in the study of the socio-psychological competence of group members, the degree of adequacy of their self-assessment are analyzed. An attempt is made to use new sociometric indices reflecting both positive and negative emotional activity of group members (desire to integrate into the group, index of social distance, general emotional activity in the group). The possibilities of using group sociometric indices in the diagnosis and socio-pedagogical correction of the status-role and value- normative structures of primary student groups are considered.
