The authors present the results of a comparative psychological analysis of depressive manifestations of mental states of convicted women held in correctional institutions with and without young children. The empirical study involved 200 convicted women serving sentences in correctional institutions of the FPSe of Russia for the Moscow and Kemerovo regions, for the Vladimir Region and the Republic of Mordovia, of which 100 convicted women with young children and 100 convicted women without children. As a result of the conducted research, it was revealed that convicted women with young children have the most pronounced depressive manifestations of mental states. It has been established that depression, preoccupation with bodily sensations, expectation of punishment and feelings of guilt are most pronounced in this category of convicts. Tearfulness, disruption of social ties, and sleep problems are less pronounced. In convicted women without children, the marked manifestations of depression are less pronounced, and the overall level of depression is noted as mild. Other manifestations of depression, such as: decreased mood, pessimism, feelings of inadequacy, dissatisfaction, self-loathing, self-blame, irritability, negative attitude towards their own appearance, loss of performance, fatigue, loss of appetite, weight loss and loss of libido in both groups of women are approximately at the same level, which in our opinion is associated with psychological peculiarities of convicted women in general.
