The article examines the issue of crisis states and critical situations affecting the attitude to life and death of terminally ill convicts, as well as their psychological and existential aspects. Special attention is paid to the analysis of internal mechanisms that arise under the influence of traumatic factors, such as incurable illness, loss of close people or awareness of their own mortality. The stages of psychological reactions to death, the dynamics of grief experiences and the phenomenon of spiritual crisis as a stage of personal transformation are investigated. The author emphasizes that critical situations can be both destructive and constructive, contributing to the reassessment of values and the formation of new meanings of life. The article also discusses approaches to the integration of traumatic experiences and methods of overcoming crisis states. The author describes in detail the stages of acceptance of death, including denial, protest, bargaining, depression and acceptance, as well as their manifestations in the behavior and emotional state of the dying person. The signs of acute grief, such as physical suffering, altered consciousness, guilt, and loss of behavioral patterns, are analyzed. The study also examines the role of crisis situations in the context of age characteristics: young people tend to use coping strategies such as distraction and isolation, whereas mature people are more likely to face suppression of emotions and self-blame. The article deals with the issues of existential crisis related to the search for meaning in life and comprehension of death, as well as the role of spiritual development in overcoming internal conflicts. The presented data may be useful for psychologists working with people in difficult life circumstances, palliative care specialists, and researchers studying existential psychology and personal growth processes.
