The article examines the role of veterans' organizations of the penal correction system in the patriotic education and socio-cultural development of the penal system employees and cadets studying in educational organizations. The author pays special attention to the activities of Sergei Vasilyevich Yerofeyev and his contribution to the preservation of historical heritage in the penal system. Based on the analysis of his activities as a chairman of the Regional Branch of the All-Russian Public Organization of veterans of the Penal System in the Perm Region and a head of the historical exposition of the in the Perm Region, located in Solikamsk, as well as his scientific and pedagogical work, the importance of preserving historical memory and the formation of patriotic values in the professional context of the penal system is described.
