Abstract (English):
Currently, one of the key places among the means of correcting convicts is occupied by educational work carried out with them. For a long time (since the 20s of the last century), one of the forms of educational work carried out in correctional institutions remained the involvement of convicts serving imprisonment in the work of various amateur organizations in which, under the supervision of the administration of the correctional institution, a variety of issues were discussed and resolved: from conducting physical education and sports events before maintaining discipline in the institution. In the article, taking into account the analysis of the development of penal enforcement legislation for the period from 2009 to 2023, the activities of public formations of convicts serving criminal sentences in the form of imprisonment (primarily amateur organizations) were considered. The purpose of the article was to analyze the causes and conditions that led to the abolition of the institution of amateur organizations of convicts, as well as to justify the need for its revival.
