THE CONVICT COMMUNITY IN PRISON AND EXILE AS A HARBINGER OF THE EMERGENCE OF ORGANIZED CRIME IN RUSSIA (BASED ON RESEARCH BY N. M. YADRINTSEV OF THE XIX – EARLY XX CENTURY)
Abstract and keywords
Abstract (English):
The article analyzes the well-known research of N. M. Yadrintsev on the subject of the analogy of the criminal law and penitentiary characteristics of the “prisoner community” in prison and exile of the 19th century, as an element of the emergence of organized crime in modern Russia. The author points out that the characteristic of the convict environment noted in the study by N. M. Yadrintsev has signs characteristic of the modern criminal subculture, despite the fact that more than 150 years have passed since the publication of the work. The emergence and development of the criminal subculture, as an element of organized crime, cannot be considered without connection with exile and hard labor, as one of the main types of punishment in the Russian Empire in the 19th century.
