The article examines the problems of ethnic socialization of youth in the modern post-industrial world, the risks and contradictions of the existential self- determination of youth in a transitive society. The system of existential values of youth, the influence of the information environment, the process of formation of traditional, ethnotypic personality traits, the content and nature of intergenerational ties were in the field of view. Special attention is paid to the mechanisms of cultural transmission, the transmission of social experience to the generations of Russian youth entering independent adulthood. The author emphasizes the difficulties of the existential self-determination of youth in a transitive society, the choice of goals and meanings of their own existence by young people, understanding the essence and criteria of a person's social success. The results of large-scale empirical research are presented, showing the dynamics and results of the processes of ethnic socialization of youth in the modern multicultural world.
