The article is devoted to the description of theoretical approaches to the application of pedagogical methods in the correction of convicts. The principle of the organization of educational work in a correctional institution is considered, which helps to understand how educational methods affect the effectiveness of the correction of convicts. The analysis of the forms and methods of educational work with convicts presented in the article helps to improve and use them correctly, which helps to increase the effectiveness of the rehabilitation of convicts, reduce the level of recidivism and ensure the safety of society. The reader should pay attention to such methods used in working with convicts as methods of forming consciousness, persuasion by word, persuasion by deed, example of actions and actions of specific persons, method of organizing behavior, methods of correcting behavior, method of trust, method of perspective lines and method of projects. Their use, based on the principles of organizing the educational process, makes it possible to increase the effectiveness of means of correction and, as a result, correct the convicted person.
