In modern pedagogy there is a growing trend of researchers turning to the past, which is an inexhaustible source of enrichment for modern and future pedagogical culture, and has become an effective tool for understanding and comprehending the latest processes in the education of younger generations. The conceptual ideas of the historical and practical past of the famous scientist Hayden White, approaches to their analysis and inclusion in the methodological foundations of building historical and pedagogical knowledge that meets the needs of today are considered. The targets for familiarization with the achievements of the pedagogical culture of the past are becoming indispensable components in the system of professional training and education of modern employees of the penal correction system.
