ACTUAL PROBLEMS AND EFFECTIVE METHODOLOGICAL TECHNIQUES OF PERSONNEL SCREENINGS USING A POLYGRAPH IN THE PENAL SYSTEM
Abstract and keywords
Abstract:
The article presents the results of a pilot study of current problems that arise during personnel screenings of candidates for higher positions and those entering the penal system, as well as ways to overcome these problems that polygraph examiners of the penal system find in their work. The research methods were an analysis of the literature on the methods of conducting polygraph examinations, as well as focus groups based on its results with polygraph examiners of the penal system conducting screening examinations using a polygraph. 24 polygraph examiners (with experience in conducting examinations from 4 to 14 years) participated in three focus groups. The results indicate that despite a number of specific features of conducting surveys related to a number of factors, including an unsuccessful set of topics to be checked, respondents note methodological difficulties of a general nature. The novelty of the study lies in the empirical confirmation of the importance of the quality of the formulation of the questions to be clarified, as well as the overall consistency of the topics studied, especially in situations where a polygraph examiner is unable to clarify the subject matter being checked with the customer. The practical significance of the work consists in highlighting those methodological aspects of conducting personnel screenings using a polygraph, which will allow obtaining the best results in the examination of employees and candidates for service in the penal system.
